Its a beautiful sculpture based on the fact that mixing colored light is a subtractive process. We are happy to donate some money for this cause. With the library running almost 24/7 and keeping almost all the lights on all the time, won't it be an additional place to waste some more electricity? The question is not only the repair of the art piece, but also its cost. The university is running under a cut budget, and I suggest anything like this should be discussed by the student body and the school management before implementation. It would be so beautiful, yet my concern is the electricity. I am also amazed that the UNC system, NCSU, the library and the College of Design have allowed Joe's iconic work to deteriorate to this point. Color Wall is one of the very first pieces of modern public art seen in Raleigh, and still among the best. I'm also amazed that the individuals running this noble effort must pass the hat for money to resurrect the artwork, while the entire UNC system lavishes money mindlessly on sports and other such nonsense. I guess the Philistines ARE always at the gate. Unless they're already in our midst. Larry Bennett, Class of 74, Product/Visual Design I am happy to donate.
